New Community Grant Awarded
Michelle Knights, Director, announced that the Delaware Mentoring Council recently administered a grant for the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) that awarded $25,000 to four new community mentoring/tutoring programs in the State of Delaware. The funds are for the establishment of new mentoring/tutoring programs or programs less than one year old that serve academically and socially at-risk youth. This process completes the second phase of funding available through the DDOE for mentoring/tutoring programs outside of the public school setting that totaled $50,000. The first $25,000 was awarded to established mentoring/tutoring programs. It is the first time that the Delaware Mentoring Council (DMC) has administered this particular mentoring/tutoring grant for the DDOE. Knights said, "Although most programs benefiting from the $50,000 have been in New Castle County, we are happy to see that a program in Dover was one of the recipients from the current round of funding. It is our hope that as more funding is available, it will be sought by programs throughout the state."
